LOVE the Gooey Butter Cake recipe! It’s a treasured one I got from my grandmother and this simple bar cake is always a huge hit at office potlucks or I need to take a dessert to a function. It’s so easy but so rich and gooey.
My grandmother did have one little tweak to the recipe; she added 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to the cream cheese mixture to give a little contrast to the sweet.
Also, this recipe works great with a chocolate cake mix as the crust.
