What do you guys do when you need dinner in a pinch? I know if you are visiting me…the last thing you want to do is spend a bunch of money rolling through your local drive thru. Not only is that a super quick way to waste a ton of money but the health factor is typically very low when you opt for dinner from a fast food window!
How about creating your own fast food at home for a fraction of the price? Not only can you save huge amounts of money, you also get great taste that’s easy on the waist line.
Instead of a greasy burger – why not whip up my Avocado, Bacon & Turkey Wrap? This meal comes together in about 15 minutes and offers the taste of a hearty burger with a fraction of the calories. Ground turkey and a package of Flatout Flatbread are my secrets to creating a healthy burger that my guys will devour.
This recipe starts with a pack of Flatout Flatbread…any variety that you like. I generally always have a pack of the Flatout Light Original and Garden Spinach in my freezer. We love all the varieties but those are the two favorites at my house.
If you haven’t tried Flatout Flatbread…you are really missing out. These babies are perfect for wraps and make the most incredible pizzas that come together in just minutes! Look for Flatout products in the bakery section at Publix. No matter if you opt for the regular or light versions, you’ll get fantastic taste that comes with very nice nutritional stats. Flatout Flatbreads are –
- Low Fat
- Good source of fiber
- 0g Tran Fat per serving
- Kosher certified
- 140 calories or less (Light versions are just 90 calories!)
You’ll also love the price. The packages are a great value and means that you can whip up my recipe for much less than the cost of that greasy fast food burger! I have a feeling that we’ll see a BOGO sale very soon…you will want to stock up for sure!
This is a super quick recipe. Instead of forming burgers, I just crumble the meat and cook it with some seasoning. It’s done in under 10 minutes, then it’s just a matter of building your favorite burger. I love using avocado for the flavor plus it acts like a kind of glue for the wrap. Another tip you might like is to used crumbled bacon in your wrap to keep the calories low. You’ll use a fraction of the amount you’d use if you used full strips but you still get that delicious bacon-y burger taste in every bite!
- 1 package Flatout Flatbread – any flavor
- 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil
- 1 pound ground turkey breast
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 tablespoons dry golden onion soup mix
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 avocados, mashed
- 4 strips cooked bacon, crumbled
- your favorite burger toppings – lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, pickles, mustard, ketchup, etc.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet and add the ground turkey and chopped onion,
- Cook over medium high until the turkey is cooked through, crumbling as you stir.
- Add 4 tablespoons of the golden onion soup mix and the water.
- Cook over medium high heat for about 5 minutes, until the water is absorbed.
- I like to lightly toast one side of my Flatout Flatbread under the broiler for about 1 minute…just to add a nice texture. Do not toast until crispy…just a minute under the broiler will give it a great texture.
- Spread a few tablespoons of the mashed avocado all over the broiled side if the flatbread.
- Spoon on about 1/4 cup of the cooked turkey down the middle of the flatbread and top with the crumbled bacon and your favorite burger toppings.
- Roll up the flatbread and serve.

I love Flatout! Publix Aprons had a recipe for a steak sandwich that I made using Flatout and it was fabulous! My daughter and I could eat it once a week. Plus strangely enough, my son used to get wraps at school and said they were surprisingly good and actually prefers making them to regular sandwiches. Easy and delicious!

I have not tried FlatOut yet. I would like to try the Original Light first. So many flat breads that are lower in fat have little flavor. I would use a recipe similar to the Avacado Bacon Turkey, only using sliced grilled chicken or turkey instead.

Mmm-mmm…Egg Salad on a Flatout Light Flatbread is delicious!!
I love these things! I make veggie roll-ups or use them to make quick sandwiches in the morning. I also made a “fruit pizza” of sorts out of the wheat ones. I spread some cream cheese on the bread, sprinkled a little cinnamon sugar on it, and then added whatever fruit we had on hand (bananas, strawberries, and blueberries- all sliced) and stuck it in the microwave for just a few seconds (I think they taste better warm, but they’re good cold too!) Delicious! 🙂

I love ALL flavors of Flatout! My top 2 favorites are Flatout Light Sundried Tomato and Flatout Light Garden Spinach. Both are perfection for a quick and healthy pizza! Just lightly coat with the oil of your choice and pre-bake at 350 for a few minutes for a crispy crust. Then add a bit of tomato sauce or bbq sauce and pile on your favorite veggies and a sprinkle of cheese. Bake until toppings are heated through and cheese begins to melt. Then devour!

We use flatouts a lot. We make peanut butter and jelly rolls for kids with them we have ate them with pepperoni , sausage, hotdogs, chicken, the sky is the limit. We have tried every variety they have and loved everyone. What a great product!

How to I like to use Flatout Flatbreads products? Let me count the ways… nope, too many to count!! I almost don’t use any other breads but these. My favorites are the Rosemary and Olive Oil (all 3 varieties of that flavor) and the Sun-Dried Tomato (Traditional), but honestly there are NO flavors there that I do not like. I use them to make all sorts of different veggie wraps and sometimes even flat like a tortilla or to make a pizza. I even toast them and cut apart in pieces to use like chips. These are SOOOOO goood!!!
I have been using their products for a number of years now and I always have at least a package or two in the fridge at all times. These are definitely the very best flatbreads on the market. They freeze well too but I usually use them up too fast to have any left to put in the freezer.
I sure would appreciate winning this giveaway! Thanks!
