This post is brought to you by the folks at Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day®. All comments and opinions are my own.
My biggest tip is de-cluttering daily! Even a few minutes a day can make a big difference.
I try to keep things straightened, that way when it’s time to clean, it takes less time and prep.
One thing I like to do is put a dryer sheet on my mattress under the bedding which my guests will sleep on to keep it smelling fresh–I’m excited to check out Mrs. Meyer’s clean day laundry products for a nice natural scent!

I love the floral smell of Mrs. Meyer’s geranium and usually wipe down surfaces with that before guests arrive so that that whole house smells fresh and clean.
I vacuum all of the dog hair off of the couch so it doesn’t get all over my guests’ clothes!
We try to keep things put away daily so that it’s easier to straighten up a little and clean before guests come
Not to leave everything to the last minute. It’s so much less stressful to prepare over a couple of days.

I clean all counter tops and the back splash in my kitchen , since the kitchen is usually where we hang out.
I gather all the kids and break up into cleaning buddies, turn on some fun music and tackle each room together. we have fun singing and dancing and don’t even know we’re cleaning:)
If it’s last minute notice, I’ll take all the clutter and put it in the spare room 😉
My tip is to delegate and begin early. Ask your family members or friends to help you.
Being from the south, I cook my guest a delish meal! That way they are distracted from what mess my kids drug out!
I start a week ahead of time, taking one room each day to thoroughly clean, then just do minor cleaning the day before my guests arrive. Otherwise, I’m just too exhausted to enjoy their company.
I am a stay at home mom of two sweet boys. I am always cleaning and straitening up our house. I am a very big fan of candles so I always have them lit when guests are over. Mrs. Myers is one of my favorite cleaning products bc they are free of harmful and dangerous chemicals. I also love they smell & plant based hand/dish soaps.
I clean the house thoroughly with my favorite cleaning products and then in the room for my guest I make a little basket with a few of their favorite things, a glade candle along with their bath items and a special hand written note from our family stating the following:
Thank you for visiting our home and we hope you enjoy your stay as much as we will enjoy having you here. The Griffith’s
I just turn up the music and if it’s not to hot or cold, open the windows.

We like to keep things picked up as much as we can, but before company comes I like to get left-overs out of the fridge and wipe it down a bit.
I give the guest room a deep cleaning, make sure the fan blades and the baseboards are dusted and have fragrant candles and a basket of sample size goodies in their room.

I don’t really do anything special…since no kids at home anymore (all grown and gone) I pretty much keep the house clean all the time. Usually just a quick dusting and straightening of throw pillows, etc. is all that’s needed before company arrives.
I try to spot clean daily so that when company comes all I have to do is straighten up a little.

Read the directions, take them seriously. Hopefully you can afford Mrs. Meyers or 7th gen, I only tried Mrs. Meyers once but loved the laundry detergent. Thanks for the chance.
I do a light mopping ,vacuuming, and dusting since It’s just my cat and me. I thoroughly clean the house once a week or every 10 days.
Keep things neat and organized for easier cleaning.
Move quickly!
Once every two weeks, I go through the house and de clutter. After I do this, I tackle 2-3 cleaning jobs, the next day or two. I always sweep/mop/vacuum and perform another 1-2 chores. I either clean sinks/toilets/tubs, wash clothes, dust house, or do heavier (needed) cleaning. I try to keep up with the dishes on a daily basis. I cook about 2-3X/week and we eat left overs the rest of the week. This works for me. On days when I will be off for some holidays(am a state worker), I try to tackle a harder job(early in the morning). This works for me. In a working household, dividing chores into segments is a necessity!
Cleaning for guests is a lot easier when I keep my home decluttered to begin with!
Quick rules: Clear all clutter. Starting in one corner of the room and working around dust all surfaces top to bottom. Use upholstery attachment and vacuum upholstered furniture. Vacuum floors along with all house carpeting as last cleaning step.
As long as I have my 80’s music on and the hubby is in charge of the boys, I am good to go!
I have found the best way to keep things clean is to cover them with stuff. You know, mail, school papers, shopping bags, coupons and stockpile surplus that doesn’t have to be kept cold. Then when you find out that company is coming, instead of having to dust and vacuum and scrub, you just pick up all the stuff and you find nice clean floors and furniture underneath! It also helps to keep a few Get well cards handy to set out on the mantle in case of dust. The only place this doesn’t work is the kitchen floor. For this special area I recommend getting your toddler (or someone else’s if you don’t have one) dressed in a feather boa or furry coat and telling the child to hold on to your ankles while you skate around the floor in your socks.
LOL!!!
I turn on Rosie my robot vacuum.
I do daily touch ups so that you aren’t overwhelmed with a lot when it is time for guests to come.

By far the best giveaway on this site, ever. Mrs. Meyer’s is a cruelty free company. They don’t test their products on animals AND they don’t test any of the ingredients on animals. Glad to support this company!
To clean for guests, I set a time to complete the tasks and focus on the main areas where guests will be.
It takes a village! Team effort when company is coming – everyone is included and the job is knocked out super quick.
If I get unexpected company and I don’t have time to clean I start my washer and pour in some pine sol
it smells like I’ve been cleaning all day….
I use a bleach pen to clean grout lines.

After I wash all the bedding in the guest room I close the door so the cats can’t go in there and get hair all over the bed. When I don’t have guest visiting I put a large thin blanket on the bed over the comforter and pillows which also helps with the cat hair and it is easier to wash one blanket. With five cats we vacuum at least twice a week and before guests come I always make sure to go over the dining room chairs, sofas and drapes.

If I am short on time I toss all the clutter onto the back stairs to the bonus room and close the door!
First, since the kids bathroom is also the guest bathroom, I make sure that is sparkling top to bottom. Then I try to enlist the help of everyone in the house. Next I try to multitask. If I’m on the phone, I grab a duster, organize or put stuff away. If I have enough notice, I do a little every day instead of trying to do everything at once and in a hurry.
I am doing the guest prep now….started in bathroom bedrooms and workin git 1 room at a time!!!lol I have never tried them but I will!!!!
I usually keep my house pretty clean. When guests are coming, I always up my guest bathroom, make sure the kitchen is sparkling, and do a quick vacuum, dusting and general pick up. If they are staying overnight, I always rewash the linens, since I want them to smell fresh and inviting!
candles burning everywhere! lol – make the house smell good for the guests.

I make sure the front of the house is clean and don’t worry about the back. I have an infant so just do the best I can!
If you’re in a rush: vacum the main room, clean the toilet and wipe the sink and mirror and sweep all clutter into a laundry basket to sort thru later. Spritz some air freshener, lower the blinds some to deflect dust, plump up the couch and pillows and fake a clean house in under 15 minutes:)

I like my guests to feel like they are staying at a 5 star resort so I deep clean the bathrooms, the way I wish a hotel would. I like it to smell fresh but not too fragrant, like the Mrs. Meyer lavender products do. Then I make sure they have a basket full of body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, moisturizers and other things they made need during their stay. I also make sure the shower is stocked with a variety of soaps, shampoos & wash clothes. Making them at home makes me happy.
I just pile everything in the spare bedroom and shut the door when we have guests over!!!
I usually try to keep things pick up, maybe a quick wipe down with Clorox wipes

I tend to clean a few days before guests arrive by wiping down the bathroom vanity and cleaning the toilet with vinegar and thieves essential oil. It disinfects and is natural. I love using the Mrs Meyers dish soap in the basil scent. Just bought some today at Publix.

Nice product to support – and I often bake something so the house smells extra great – I believe that is an old realtor trick for selling homes !
Something my mom always did and i do too !! If i have any apples, oranges , limes etc I cut them up add a cinnamon stick , add a lil nutmeg , cover with water and let it softly boil !! House smells wonderful !!
Glad to see some others on the same page with me lol…. Throw stuff in a hidden place, vacuum, dust, and call it a day!
I love the lavender foaming hand soap. Picking up daily is what I try to do as well. Cleaning up kitchen after meals.
I don’t have to do to much to get ready for guests as we keep the house pretty clean every day. I have a schedule that I rotate everyday on the list and start again on Monday..therefore, everyday I am doing something. It can be a pain, but in the long run I like it because my home is always clean and pleasant environment for the peeps and pets.
The few things that I do is when guests are about to arrive is to put flowers in the guest room and a glade plugin.
The one product I purchased that helps a lot IF for some reason I have gotten behind is: I purchased really cool closed storage bins. I can toss things in there and out of the way in a flash.
One more tip is my mail and magazines. It can really pile up as I get so much of both..I regular go through or donate the magazines to the library or seniors home and hospitals..once a month..and NO matter what I go through the mail as soon as it comes in.
I try to do a little every day so it never gets out of hand. It makes it so I never have to spend a ton of time cleaning before guests arrive. Plus, around here, family tends to show up without notice! I don’t want to be caught off guard 🙂

Not much to do. Guest room is always ready for my family. I like to leave a lavender candle in the guest room and also in the guest bathroom.
I have always found if I do a little cleaning up everyday it doesnt get too overwhelming for me. Just try to tackle a little each day.
I like to tackle each room one at a time…that way if I cant get finished that day I will feel accomplished if one room is clean. Then I start again the next day.
Start a week before and do a little bit every day.
I try to do a quick tidying up each evening so that the cleaning does not get out of hand. If I am short on time and someone is coming over, I just wipe down all the mirrors, the glass on the pictures and any other shiny surfaces. Makes the whole room look brighter.

I do try to stay ahead, but when you are given only a short notice you can call your favorite sister(favorite is the one that shows up) and then get the main areas and guests room done. I did this when another family member cancelled at Christmas. Funny thing everything that was clutter or extra went in the attic and we only found some of it when we were putting up our decorations.

My biggest tip is to start in the bathroom. Not the first place they see, but it is where everyone will go to freshen up before dinner if you are having a group over and they have been playing outside. You can spot clean everywhere else. Who comes over for your house, I don’t visit the house I visit the people. My best advice is not to stress and enjoy.

To prepare for guests, I CLEAN and then make that area/room “OFF LIMITS” to the kids.\!!!
Thanks for the chance.
To get ready for guests I clean way in advance and that is my advice. That way the job is done early if possible. I have cleaned the night before and that is no fun!

I keep things picked up and tidy. I do a complete cleaning job during breaks away from work.
I try to keep my home de cluttered, that way even with unexpected guests the house isn’t that bad. Living in the country and having family all around there are always unexpected guests, ha. For those few times when I know company is coming and staying I like to make sure to deep clean the guest bath and bedroom, including baseboards. I love Mrs. Meyers basil scent. It’s very soothing and inviting to me. I am so excited about this give away!!
Straightening up at the end of a long day caring for grandkids, make a list of things that have to be done before company and if I miss something – oh, well!!!
I keep a basket in the living room so I can put the clutter in it and stash it in a closet really quick if I need to.
Making the home feel warm and welcome like setting out a nice hand soap in the guest bath (such as Mrs. Meyer’s) with a clean hand towel, diffusing essential oils into the air, fresh baked goods and always clean floors. 🙂
