If you haven’t yet noticed, it’s time to pull out the aprons and dust off your cookbooks! Baking season is officially here! This is my favorite time of year. It’s chaotic… but it’s also wonderful! I get hit up quite often for bake sales, cookie exchanges, classroom parties and then there’s just all the fun recipes that I want to make and give!
I had to stop looking at Pinterest because my list was getting out of control. I found so many new things that I wanted to try. If I attempted everything I’d be baking until Valentine’s Day! A few weeks ago I spotted the Duncan Hines display at Publix and couldn’t pass up their new seasonal items. I am a sucker for holiday inspired treats.
Like the Autumn Swirl Cake you see above. How incredibly delicious does that look? I whipped that up between loads of laundry. It was super simple to make but I think it looks so elegant and is perfect for the season. It’s made with a box of new Duncan Hines Autumn Velvets Cake Mix and Duncan Hines Maple Spiced Frosting. If that cake had been for my crew, I would have cut into it to show you the beautiful swirls of brown and orange cake. But, that cake was for my sweet college gal who often helps me here at the house. She is a busy gal who goes to school every day, works as a waitress, and will still come out and help me without batting an eye! I am very fond of folks who work hard and this girl has quite the work ethic. That deserves to be rewarded with a sweet treat, don’t you think?
It takes very little time to bake up something that will make someone’s day. I whipped up those Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes in a flash. Jeb’s coach texted me last week asking if I’d mind hosting a video viewing for the team. He offered to bring pizza so I said I’d have drinks and dessert. Those weren’t my prettiest cupcakes ever but those kids were thrilled… I call that a success!
The folks at Duncan Hines have made it easy to find everything you need at Publix. Be on the lookout for an in-store display that has tons of great products to help you create delicious holiday treats and goodies for your friends and family.
In addition to your favorites, they have several new seasonal selections that would be perfect for your holiday menu. Look for these seasonal items when you shop –
- Irish Cream Brownies
- Autumn Velvets Cake Mix
- Maple Spice Frosting
- Cranberry Orange Bar
- Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes

Ok, you win, superwoman! Save some skills for the rest of us ;). That is a gorgeous cake, I bet it tastes as good as it looks!
You are too cute…I have to tell you–I often do chopped nut, chocolate chips, sprinkles and the like on the edge of a cake. A friend of mine used to decorate cakes and she gave me the tip many years ago.
It is wonderful for so many reasons…it makes the cake look great with almost no effort. It’s considered a “novice” way to decorate…meaning anyone can do it. You can also use less frosting on the sides saving more for the side and top!!! You don’t have to worry about the sides looking pretty which is nice and if you happen to have a little bit of an uneven cake you can then use the extra frosting to “even out” your cake 😉
So…while I’d love to claim that cape–It’s actually one of the fastest and easiest ways to decorate a cake–tee hee!!
Beautiful! 🙂
