Have you checked your spice cabinet lately? With all the baking and cooking that goes on during the holiday season, now would be a good time to take a few minutes and do a little inventory so you have all the essentials on hand when you need them.
Plus, this is the also the perfect time to turn over those bottles and check the “best by” dates! Go through and toss out all those old and expired items and take the opportunity to give your cabinet a refresh. Dried spices can lose their flavor over time, and a good rule of thumb is that if they no longer smell like what they’re supposed to, it’s time to replace them.
The right spices can be the difference between a good meal and a great one, which is why I love Spice Islands’ products. With a huge selection of spices, seasonings, and herb blends, Spice Islands products are the quick and easy way to create meals that are much tastier and so much more satisfying.
That’s because Spice Islands embraces the artisanship of the spice experience by taking extra steps to preserve the rich, authentic flavors found in the world’s herbs and spices. What they promise is what you get, and that’s authentic, high quality flavors sourced from all over the globe.

I make homemade cinnamon rolls for Christmas Eve. I found a recipe online years ago I love. ¾ cup warm milk (whole milk or 2% preferred) (110 degrees F)
2 ¼ teaspoons quick rise or active yeast (1/4-ounce package yeast)
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 egg plus 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
3 cups bread flour, plus more for dusting
3/4 teaspoon salt
For the filling:
2/3 cup dark brown sugar (light brown sugar also works)
1 ½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
For the cream cheese frosting:
4 oz cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup powdered sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
I first warm the milk in microwave and transfer to mixer bowl and sprinkle the yeast on top. I add egg, egg yolks , sugar and melted butter. I then mix in flour and salt and mix with wooden spoon until dough forms. I then put dough hook on mixer and mix about 8 minutes. I transfer dough to a well oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap and warm towel and leave 1 to 1 1/2 hours until double in size. I then roll into rectangle and make the filling and place on dough using my hands (clean hands are the best tools). I then roll and cut about 9 rolls using a serated knife or floss. I place in parchment papered cake pan and cover with plastic and warm towel and let rise from 30 to 45 minutes. I then cook on 350 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes. I mix frosting in mixer and spread immediately on cinnamon rolls. It’s a lot of work but delicious and a tradition in my house. I always buy Spice Island Cinnamon. I also use as Spice Island Cinnamon, Ginger and Gloves in my Thanksgiving and Christmas pumpkin pies.
